Long time no speak!

After much prodding and cajoling of myself, I decided to make an entry.  My absence has been mainly due to being busy working on the non partisan voter protection side but also because I have been unhappy about what I have been viewing on tv as it relates to politics and its coverage.

I am employed in two worlds.  One where the president of a prestigious university makes a joke during a cocktail gathering to tell the audience that “she’s a pistol packin’ Momma like Pailin!”  I almost choked on my appetizer because I was shicked she’d even mention that in that setting.  Then i visit one of my two offices and there is always excitement surrounding Obama and union member responses to our phone calls, home visits or work site conversations.  They can go from one extreme to another, for sure  and I sometimes wonder if I am really hearing the whole truth and nothing but the truth or are some comments tempered to not hurt my feelings…..

Well….two debates down and one more to go!  I’m tired of debates and droning on and on……time to get the party over!  I have stopped listening to the CNN everyday but I still hear it blaring in the other room where my husband has turned into a cable TV junkie….

Young folks,,,,want Obama….we had over 60 volunteers attend the first training session for poll monitors tonight.  it was a great education tool.  People had a lot of great questions and high enthusiasm.  We even had a elementary aged girl with her Mom who was excited about the election.   The city is gearing up for Obama’s last Philly visit prior to Election Day.  He wil be all over the city in four locations.  Folks went wild when they heard that news this afternoon.  I will be out of town on business but I did get to meet him in March so I dont feel too badly.  Some people want to think Obama will win but most are hesitant to make that assumption.  It aint in the bag!

It was one of my union members who shared an anonymous letter written to intimidate unknowing voters.  We forwarded it to our legal team and the ACLU for assistance and was glad to see a news article about in it in the local newspaper.  Grapevine does work!!

Keep the grapevine open.  We need to know what’s happen where voters are being challenged with glaringly  false information or other dangers to prevent people from exercising their right to vote.  Looks like the devil is working overtime!

    Go Janet, go!

While the cable news outlets are scrambling to set up an epic ratings bonanza we’ll be on the streets getting out the vote. That is if you consider the biggest wave of voter participation since we started this democracy thing as simply “getting out the vote.”

    Peace.
